AFTER clinching the Western League Division One title last weekend, Merthyr manager Garry Shephard is turning to youth for Town’s last three matches.
Merthyr take on Roman Glass St George tomorrow at Taffs Well and Shephard intends to see what he has in reserve, while scouting for players to improve the side.
He said: “Danny Carter and I want a closer look at what we have at youth level now and see what is needed for next season.
“We have some promising players in the youth ranks and this will be an ideal opportunity to see if they can step up and see how they go at a competitive standard.
“As for next season, we’ve already started plans with the Trust.
“It is clear it’s going to be tougher than this season, having been knocked out of two cup competitions by Premier clubs on both occasions.
“I’d like to think that 95 per cent of the current squad will be kept on as I feel they are more then capable of stepping up, but there will be some fine-tuning to keep the lads on their toes.
“We’ve had a great season and we must keep that feelgood factor going.
It’s like most sports, the paying public want success and our supporters have been super, not just in the home games, but away too, and we need to keep that going.
“We also return to Penydarren Park as well, which is a major bonus because the pitch is nice and wide, and our game-plan is to get the ball out to the wings as quickly as we can, so everybody is looking forward to going back.”
Roman Glass St George are second from bottom and Merthyr are looking to complete the double over them having won 4-0 away last month
