ANTHONY Hudson will make some big decisions on his Newport County players over their last four Blue Square Conference matches of the season.
County manager Hudson and his team take on Barrow at home tomorrow followed by Altrincham (away), champions Crawley Town at home on Bank Holiday Monday April 25 and then, in their final game of the current campaign, Gateshead in the north east of England.
Hudson is already planning for next season, having conceded that while making the Conference play-offs is not mathematically out of the question it is highly unlikely.
Newport County are ninth, while tomorrow’s visitors Barrow are 16th.
Hudson is demanding a big finish to the season and insists performances in the remaining games will impact on his decisions for 2011-12.
“This club is going to be in the Football League and I need to make sure that come the start of pre-season I have exactly who I know will do a job for the club to get us there,” said Hudson.
“Newport County are going places and we want to make sure we get it right for the start of next season.
“We are building towards that challenge. My job is to ensure we have the right players to achieve what we are aiming for – and the next four games are crucial in that process.”
County have 12 points to play this season and they are nine points off the top-five finish which would put them in the play-offs.
Fleetwood Town are the team in fifth and it looks an impossible dream for Newport to make up the deficit.
“We are not mathematically out of the play-offs, but that is unlikely now,” said Hudson. “But our challenge is to win every game. The season’s not dead for us and if it is dead for anyone I’ll find that out.
