Merthyr Town 3-0 Rg St George
MERTHYR eased to another victory in the Western League Division One against strugglers St George, although it wasn’t the most convincing display from the recently crowned champions.
Only a Craig Stiens strike on 42 minutes separated the sides at the break after Andrew Thomas had set up the chance.
However, the visitors struck the Merthyr woodwork on 69 minutes when Paul Coles’ effort looped over Joe Perry in the Martyrs goal.
But Merthyr made sure of the points just four minutes later when Joe Leahy headed in a Marcus Griffiths cross at the far post.
It was incessant Merthyr pressure all through the second half and that led to the hosts’ third with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
St George defender Joe Carr brought down Merthyr captain Steve Williams in the box and he got up to dispatch the resultant spot-kick past St George goalkeeper Adam Growcott.
